It was one of those hard-fought league games that comes down to the wire.
Well, actually, it came down to the line.
San Marcos went 11-for-12 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter on Friday night in a 53-46 Channel League boys basketball win at Buena.
“It was back-and-forth and nobody had more than a 5-point lead the whole game. But in the fourth quarter we executed and were able to get to the free-throw line,” said coach Jarrod Bradley.
J.P. Dodson shot 10 free throws in the final period and made nine, scoring a team-high 13 points on the night. The Royals made an impressive 19 of their 22 free throws in the game while the Bulldogs went 10-for-17.
“We got the ball to J.P., who’s our best free-throw shooter, and he converted. He was really relaxed and confident,” said Bradley.
Chad Ridenour knocked down a pair of 3-pointers en route to 12 points for San Marcos (14-3, 2-0 Channel League). The Bulldogs fall to 10-6, 0-1.
The Royals play at Dos Pueblos on Friday.
