Chargers come up short against Cougars, 1-0

Despite out-shooting Ventura 12-8 on Tuesday, the Dos Pueblos girls soccer team suffered a second-half letdown, allowing the host Cougars to pick up a 1-0 Channel League victory.

“Unfortunately, it was a very disappointing second half full of poor decision-making and again massive breakdowns on defense,” said coach Molly Imel.

Imel said that the Chargers dominated the first half, out-shooting the Cougars 6-2. Mallory Meyers was in goal for those 40 minutes and recorded the shutout during that time.

“We held strong possession for the first 40 minutes,” said Imel. “We played well, created good offensive tactics and had some quality opportunities that we did not put away to light up the scoreboard.”

Ventura scored on a restart from 25 yards out in the 51st minute.

The Chargers (7-6-6, 2-2-1) play Santa Barbara at Girsh Park on Thursday, with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
