Cate dominates, ends up with draw

Cate’s boys soccer team out-shot rival Thacher 16-4 on Wednesday, but the afternoon ended in a 2-2 draw nonetheless.

“Sometimes you do everything just as you should and things just don’t go the way you want them to,” said coach Dave Mochel.

After allowing the first goal, Cate responded on an assist from Jackson Mauze to Harry Gruner. In the second half, Gruner struck once more off of an assist from Ema Boateng to put the Rams up 2-1.

The Rams would have eight more shots and six corner kicks in the remainder of the match, but Thacher held them off and got the equalizer on a late penalty kick.

Mochel highlighted the play of sweeper Luke Shover and goalie Grant Redmond.
