Young Dons taken to school by Oxnard

Santa Barbara High graduated every single varsity player from its boys basketball program last season, so to say this year’s team is inexperienced doesn’t even do it justice.

The Dons were crushed by an experienced, physical Oxnard squad 78-28 Friday night in the season opener for both teams. Clifford Anderson led the Dons with 11 points.

“We only turned the ball over 16 times, but it felt like much more than that,” said coach Chris Hantgin. “We weren’t able to get a lot of good shots off. It was a tough place to play our first game.”

The Dons play at Camarillo on Tuesday.
