SBCC had a tough shooting night on Thursday in the first round of the Monterey Bay Classic and No. 10 Irvine Valley took advantage to post a 77-60 men’s basketball victory.
David Lane scored 20 for the Vaqueros (3-5), who trailed 40-32 at intermission. SBCC hit just 26 percent in the second half and 31.7 percent (19-60) for the game. The Lasers improved to 7-0.
“We defended well enough and we had more shot attempts and more free throws,” noted coach Morris Hodges. “We just couldn’t shoot the ball.”
Lucky Teeguarden added 12 points and five rebounds. Daniel Koches led the Vaqueros in rebounds (6) and assists (3).
SBCC will take on Hartnell on Friday at 3 p.m.
