Down to just six players, the Dos Pueblos girls basketball team managed to pull off a 44-31 win over Redwood Christian in the first round of Green Division play at the Tournament of Champions on Saturday.
Kristen Gowdy scored 17 points and went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter to seal the win. She also had six rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
Dos Pueblos had a commanding 30-14 lead at the half, but fatigue set in and the Chargers’ lead dwindled down to just three points. Chiara DiMarco, however, hit a clutch 3-pointer to end DP’s dry spell in the middle of the fourth quarter.
“You could totally tell the fatigue was a factor,” said coach Maynard Pilapil. “Our conditioning is really being tested.”
