Still nobody getting close to Owls

Laguna Blanca’s girls soccer team kept up the good work on Friday, improving to 3-0 on the season after a 3-1 victory over Santa Clarita Mission at the Grace Brethren Tournament.

Becca Braly, Fiona Jessup and Lauren McCallister tallied goals for the Owls, who face Viewpoint on Saturday. Laguna, CIF semifinalists a year ago, won its first two games by a combined 9-1 score.

Braley struck first, giving Laguna Blanca a 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the game. Santa Clarita answered before the half, but Owls head coach Gregg Luna said his girls “came out firing” in the second half.

“We played a controlled second half and didn’t give Santa Clarita a chance to come back,” Luna said.

Goalkeeper Arabella Watters was huge for Laguna keeping Santa Clarita at bay.

“She came up with some huge saves when things got hectic,” credited Luna.

The Owls, undefeated at 3-0 thus far, play two matches on Saturday to decide final tournament standing. The semifinal match against Viewpoint starts at 11:30 a.m.
