SBCC men’s hoops finally coming home

After nine games on the road, SBCC will make its men’s home basketball debut on Thursday in the opening round of the 37th annual SBCC Classic. The Vaqueros (3-6) will take on Vandenberg AFB at 7 p.m. in the Sports Pavilion.

Community West BankCypress (5-4) will open Thursday’s play against Barstow (3-3) at 3 p.m., followed by Hancock (0-6) and Victor Valley (3-4) at 5 p.m. Defending champion Oxnard (3-5) will take on L.A. Valley (5-4) at 9 p.m.

The tourney continues with four games on Friday. The Saturday lineup features the consolation final at 3 p.m., the third-place game at 5 and the championship at 7.

Sophomore guard David Lane leads SBCC with a 19.2 scoring average. He ranks No. 2 in WSC scoring and eighth in assists (3.7). Lucky Teeguarden is averaging 14 points while Willie Reese is pulling down 7.2 rebounds per game.

Lane had a season-high 29 points last Friday against Hartnell at the Monterey Bay Classic.

SBCC has won eight Classic titles, most recently in 2006.
