SBCC made just 26.4 percent from the field on Sunday morning in a 71-58 women’s basketball loss to San Joaquin Delta. The 13th-ranked Mustangs claimed the consolation title in the Tom Gilchrist Invitational at Sequoias College.
Both teams were playing their fourth game in four days at the 16-team tourney in Visalia.
The Vaqueros (5-5), ranked 19th in the state, struggled in the first half, hitting only 7-of-32 shots (21.8 percent) while falling behind 44-25.
Jake Kelly led SBCC with 23 points, seven rebounds and four steals. She scored 19 in the second half when she hit 4-8 from 3-point country. She also had six of her team’s 30 turnovers. In four games, Kelly averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4 steals.
Lyndsay Bergus added seven points and six rebounds.
“We played really hard, we just couldn’t hit shots,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “We were down by 20 but we still came back and cut it to eight with six minutes to go. Overall, I’m really proud of our effort.”
Frannie DeAngelis, who entered the game with a 21.8 average, was held to three points on 1-6 shooting.
SBCC returns to action on Friday against Citrus at the Moorpark Classic.
