Just two days after winning the Central Coast Classic, the San Marcos boys soccer team kept rolling by handing visiting Hueneme a 1-0 defeat at Valley Stadium on Monday.
Chris Olmedo made a 30-yard run before crossing to Erik Gutierrez, who chipped it over the defense back to Olmedo for a goal as San Marcos got the winner with just a few minutes remaining.
Coach Brian Eisen said watching the goal was “pretty much euphoric.”
Efren Gutierrez collected his fourth consecutive shutout in goal, and the Royals’ record is now up to 5-1-1.
“It’s never been a question of talent in this program for the last few years. It’s been a question of whether they’ll use that talent,” said Eisen.
