Last weekend, Brian Roth said that his San Marcos girls water polo team team had to “go back to the drawing board” after a tournament loss to Huntington Beach.
The tune has officially changed.
On Thursday, the Royals picked up a 13-3 victory at Royal in Simi Valley. The two teams had scrimmaged just before Thanksgiving, with San Marcos winning 15-12.
“We had our best practice of the year yesterday and it was very evident in the way we played the game,” said Roth.
He added that Flo Chardon played the best game he’s ever seen her play, defending the two-meter position with efficiency en route to four steals. Jade Fitzgerald scored six goals, while Hannah and Rose Koper each had two. Mallory Zaunius made five saves in the game, and the Royals (5-2) had 18 steals total.
“With that, we were just able to counter-attack and do our thing,” said Roth.
