Manny Rodriguez totaled 31 points for Carpinteria’s boys basketball team on Monday, nearly outscoring Kern Valley by himself in a 61-32 victory at the Valley Christian Academy Tournament.
Rodriguez did outscore Kern Valley in the first half 25-13 as the Warriors opened up a 33-13 lead by halftime. Rodriguez, who did not play in the fourth quarter, made 13-of-17 field goals and added 12 rebounds.
“They had no answer for him,” said Warriors coach John Ward, whose team improves to 6-3 on the season.
Kevin Lusterio was snake eyes all night, tallying 11 points and 11 assists to go with five rebounds and five steals. Ward was also high on the contributions from Andrew Sova and Trevor Madden. Both scored five points with Sova adding six rebounds and two blocks while Madden tacked on three rebounds and three steals.
The victory earns the Warriors a tournament matchup with cross-town rival Bishop Diego on Tuesday. The winner of that game will move on to play the winner of Santa Ynez-Morro Bay later on Tuesday.
