Porter-Ray scores 18 as Royals dominate

It was a bit of a mismatch at the Thunderhut on Monday, as Desiree Porter-Ray scored 18 points to lead the San Marcos girls basketball team to a 59-20 win over visiting Carpinteria.

Caitlin Wallace led the Warriors (4-3) with 12 points.

Community West Bank“We were outmatched except for the first quarter or quarter-and-a-half. We were down 11 points midway through the second quarter but we just didn’t have the endurance tonight. Give credit to them,” said Carpinteria coach Dan Mercer. “But I know we can be competitive with a team like this.”

San Marcos (5-3) coach Kristyn Miller said that she challenged her players to leave it all on the court, and they did. She was also impressed by the play of youngsters Emily Dietz, Gabby Sandoval and Hannah Ball.
