Desiree Porter-Ray had a breakout game with 20 points on Friday as the San Marcos girls basketball team bounced back from two straight losses to beat Santa Ynez 55-31 in the Gold Coast Tournament.
“This one comes at just the right time after two straight crushing blows from Agoura and Chaminade,” said coach Kristyn Miller.
The Royals (5-2) had some players step up offensively that hadn’t previously. Lindsey Hyslop tallied seven points, and Emily Dietz hit a pair of treys for six points. Vanessa Curiel added 10 points for the Royals, who play Saugus at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
“Things just started to click. We focused on maintaining a positive attitude, which ended up being contagious,” said Miller. “The bottom line is we really wanted the ball tonight and we took care of it instead of just talking about it.”
