Santa Ynez stepped up its defense on Cate in the second half on Wednesday, changing the tide in an 11-5 non-league victory over the Rams.
Cate was competetive for the first half, matching the Pirates 3-3 at halftime. Santa Ynez shored up its defense in the third quarter, however, keeping the Rams scoreless for the first 12 minutes of the second half.
Belle Kammer led the Rams with four goals and Kate Montgomery recorded one.
Cate head coach Nathan Alldredge said his team is looking forward to regaining its form against Mayfield on Saturday.
