Luther Tarver-Burks has been carrying the offensive load for the Laguna Blanca boys basketball team all season, but the Owls received a much more balanced effort on Wednesday in a 62-50 win over Grace Brethren at the Valley Christian Academy Tournament.
Four Owls reached double-figures, including 16 points from Logan Elder. Tarver-Burks finished with 19.
“Logan’s getting better and better each game. The thing I like about him is that he plays with a lot of heart. He runs his butt off,” said coach Sal Rodriguez.
Laguna trailed 25-20 at halftime, but won the third quarter 19-9 and never looked back. Rodriguez had observed John Ward’s offensive system during Carpinteria’s overtime win against Bishop Diego on Tuesday and implemented it just before the Owls (2-7) faced the Lancers.
“I studied it and drew it up overnight. We put it in during warm-ups and it worked,” he said.
