San Marcos was up 17-9 after one quarter against defending CIF champion Thousand Oaks on Friday night, but it quickly slipped away from the Royals in a 74-55 loss at the San Luis Obispo Tournament.
Christian Mkpado “worked his butt off” according to coach Jarrod Bradley, putting up 23 points with 12 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double. Bradley also said that J.P. Dodson (nine points) had a solid outing.
Thousand Oaks won the second quarter 30-6 and made 21 of 28 free throws in the game. San Marcos (2-1) turned the ball over 23 times, leading to 30 Thousand Oaks points.
