Matt McClenathen has been Dos Pueblos’ go-to guy this season, and the senior was there when it counted on Thursday night, knocking down a game-winning 3-pointer to give the Chargers a 48-46 victory over Lakewood.

The score was 46-45 with 4.5 seconds on the clock when McClenathen inbounded the ball to Robbie Mestas. McClenathen moved to an open spot and received a pass back from Mestas. With a defender closing, McClenathen elevated and buried the shot.

“To be on the other end of that felt good,” said Chargers head coach Joe Zamora, knowing how the Lancers must have felt after the Chargers were themselves victims of a last-second game-winning shot against Saugus less than two weeks ago.

McClenathen finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. Jay Larinan added 14 and Pablo Miranda 12.

Jared Garber led Lakewoood (5-4) with 19 points.

DP (5-5)  faces another tough opponent on Monday when it travels to Mater Dei.
