Jay Larinan pulled down 18 rebounds on Saturday as the Dos Pueblos boys basketball team avenged an earlier loss to Oak Park with a 52-50 win to open the Ventura Kiwanis Tournament.
“He was all over the place tonight. Down the stretch he was just up and around the rim. He was definitely controlling the glass,” said coach Joe Zamora.
The Chargers went up by 12 early in the third quarter, but the Eagles battled back and actually led by one in the fourth quarter. Oak Park had the ball with two seconds to play, but Matt McClenathen intercepted the inbounds pass to ice the game.
Larinan, a junior, scored seven points while McClenathen had 15 and Pablo Miranda added 14 for the Chargers, who will play Pacifica on Monday at 4 p.m.
