A 0-0 halftime tie turned into a 4-0 win for the Laguna Blanca girls soccer team on Thursday against St. Gabriel Christian in the Grace Brethren Tournament.
“They were a very good team from L.A., and it was our first big test,” said coach Gregg Luna. “We controlled the first half and had some opportunities but could’t finish them.”
That all changed when captian Erin Stone scored about seven minutes into the second half. Offensive dynamo Becca Braly found the back of the net 10 minutes later, and Flavia Coscea buried one off of a Kelsey Douglas corner kick soon after. Lauren McCallister finished the day’s scoring with 10 minutes remaining.
The Owls (2-0), have scored nine goals in two games to start the season.
“I like the fact that a lot of people are scoring. It’s been a nice variety because we’re using everyone and this year we’re moving people around a lot. The girls are buying into the system,” said Luna, who also highlighted the play of goalie Arabella Watters.
The Owls continue play in the tournament on Friday, with the opponent to be determined.
