They scored in the first minute of the day and didn’t slow down too much from there.
The Santa Barbara High boys soccer team is in good position to win its third consecutive title at the Cats and Hounds tourney in Atascadero after beating Arroyo Grande 3-1 and Templeton 9-0 in back-to-back matches on Friday.
“We returned so many players up front from last year that the chemistry is already there,” said coach Todd Heil. “I like our chances (to win the tournament). We’re scoring goals, which is very important.”
Jesse Gonzalez scored in the first minute against Arroyo Grande and Christian Pardo put one away off of an assist by Sanford Spivey in the 12th.
“They’re much improved from previous years, but it’s hard to come back when you go down 2-0 after 12 minutes,” said Heil.
The Eagles answered in the 16th, but Gonzalez assisted Pardo for the Dons’ third goal in the 30th minute.
Santa Barbara needed just five minutes to score against Templeton as Gonzalez scored the first of his three goals in the match. Luis Santana and Alfredo Ibarra each had a pair of goals in the blowout.
The Dons earned a bye into the Gold Division semifinals, which will be played at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.
