Jocelyn Gamez was ill, so Carpinteria girls soccer coach Lucy Carleton sent her home at halftime.
She had a hat trick by then.
The host Warriors crushed Thacher 5-0 on Monday, with Gamez scoring in the third, fifth and 35th minutes. The first score came off of an assist from Nikki Graham, the second from Ally Winn and the third from Ariana Martinez.
Winn and freshman Cathy Torres scored goals in the second half, while Carleton said Viri Magaña and Lucy Cortez were stellar on the back line. She took both to Monday’s Round Table luncheon earlier in the day.
“I’m going to have to take them to lunch every day now,” joked Carleton.
The Warriors are now 3-1.
