Rebecca Griffin erupted for 27 points and the Santa Barbara girls basketball team dominated San Francisco’s El Camino 74-48 in its final pool play game at the Righetti Tournament on Wednesday. Griffin struggled in the nightcap, however, going just 3-for-23 as the Dons fell to the host Warriors 46-43.
Griffin tossed in five 3-pointers in the first game, while Tess Emerson added 16 points and Jackie Kerns chipped in 10 for the Dons, who led 45-33 at halftime.
Freshman sensation Ivette Gil was a bright spot in the loss to Righetti, scoring 22 points and playing aggressive defense, according to coach Andrew Butcher.
“We just shot very poorly, probably because of their defense. Fatigue also might have had something to do with it,” said Butcher.
The Dons (12-4) play San Marcos at the SBCC Sports Pavilion at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The schools’ boys teams will face off after that.
