The Santa Barbara boys soccer offense has gotten all the glory so far, scoring an average of four goals per game as the Dons are off to a 6-0 start.
“I think the biggest part of that success is just their chemistry. We’re very lucky to have returned so many players, and we’re top-heavy on the offensive side,” said coach Todd Heil.
The defense, however, has been just as impressive. The Dons went down to Moorpark and picked up a 3-0 win on Tuesday — their fourth consecutive shutout. Santa Barbara has now outscored its opponents 24-2 on the young season.
Leading-scorer Jesse Gonzalez booted a corner kick for an assist to Marcos Lopez in the 34th minute as the Dons went up 1-0 heading into halftime. Gonzalez found the back of the net off of a pass from Sanford Spivey in the 55th, and in the 76th Luis Santana beat a defender and dished off an assist to George Muñoz.
Santa Barbara hosts Santa Ynez on Friday at Peabody Stadium at 5 p.m. If there is rain, the game will be moved to La Playa Stadium at 4 p.m.
