Considering 10 players graduated from last year’s team and there are a whole bunch of new faces, Santa Barbara High girls soccer coach Brian Lloyd was very pleased with his team’s season-opening 1-1 draw at Newbury Park on Thursday.
“We played exceptionally well defensively. They only had three or four shots all night,” said Lloyd.
The Dons’ back line consists of Kai Miller, Ceci Alvarez, Kirsten Jurich and Brittany Couture.
Newbury Park scored 10 minutes into the second half, but Santa Barbara senior captain Brianna Lopez picked up the equalizer with eight minutes left off of a long ball from Alvarez.
“She played very hard and team-minded. I was very proud of the way she played,” said Lloyd.
The Dons host Moorpark on Tuesday.
