Dons close the gap

In a sign that the Santa Barbara boys basketball team may be finding itself, the Dons scored more points on Thursday than in their previous two games combined, but still lost 55-52 to Fresno’s Edison at the Arroyo Grande Tournament.

The inexperienced Santa Barbara team was in its first close game of the season and had a chance to tie imbounding the ball with three seconds on the clock. The Dons could not get off a shot, however, losing for the third straight time to start the season.

“We’re just going to keep building,” said Dons head coach Chris Hantgin, whose team plays Santa Maria on Friday.

Santa Barbara outscored the Tigers in the second and fourth quarters, but a slow start for the Dons gave Edison the advantage.

Three Dons scored in double digits, with Daniel Marshall’s 13 leading the way. Rosbourough tallied 12 and Hedden 10.
