Frannie DeAngelis scored 21 points and Giovanna Aplin had 10 off the bench Friday night, leading SBCC to a 66-52 win over Porterville in the consolation quarterfinals of the Sequoias women’s basketball tournament in Visalia.
Mara Lux racked up 15 rebounds and four blocks for the Vaqueros (4-4), who snapped a three-game losing streak by holding the Pirates to 26.3-percent shooting. Jake Kelly had nine points and Brittany Stephenson grabbed nine rebounds for SBCC, which led 38-26 at the half.
“It was a nice game after a tough (2-point) loss on Thursday,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “Our defense and overall aggressiveness were good. And we made our shots consistently.
“All 14 players got in the game and I was happy with the play of Leigh Cullinan (4 rebounds) in the post.”
The Vaqueros will only have 12 hours off before facing Solano on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the consolation semifinals of the 16-team tourney.
