Committed Chargers jump on Rosary

Dos Pueblos made a commitment to defense on Saturday and followed through, posting a 12-3 rout of Rosary at the Elings Aquatic Center.

“I thought they did a good job of switching and adjusting and helping back to where they needed to, so yea, I think they did a good job (on defense),” said head coach Danelle Little, whose No. 1-ranked Chargers are 6-0.

Tiera Schroeder led on both ends of the pool, recording a game-high six goals on offense and collected four steals on defense. Sami Hill made 14 saves as the Chargers’ last line of defense.

“(Sami) did a fabulous job and came up with two really good saves that turned into easy counter-attack opportunities for us,” remarked Little.

Hill also thought her team’s defense showed well on Saturday.

“It’s way easier for me when we play good defense,” said Hill, who also had two assists.

The Chargers almost held Rosary scoreless in the first half before Bernadette Bevins scored the first of her two goals late in the second quarter. Dos Pueblos still took a 7-1 lead into the halftime break.

“We didn’t want to come out flat. After a great win like last night, we couldn’t be overconfident or anything,” noted Schroeder, referring to Friday’s 14-6 win over Coronado.

Kiley Neushul scored twice for DP as did younger sister Jamie Neushul.

Dos Pueblos doesn’t play again until just before the New Year. The Chargers travel to play at Laguna Beach on the 29th before competing in the Newport Harbor Tournament on the 30th and 31st.

“We haven’t played too many games yet so I’m excited to get into the heart of the season,” Schroeder said.
