A cold spell at the end of the first half cost SBCC on Friday in a 102-81 men’s basketball loss to Hartnell at the Monterey Bay Classic. The Vaqueros (3-6) were outscored 19-2 over the final seven minutes of the first half and trailed 53-35 at intermission of the consolation semifinal.
David Lane scored 23 of his season-high 29 points in the second half for SBCC. Daniel Koches added 16 points, Willie Reese had six rebounds and Lane handed out five assists.
Santa Barbara struggled from the field for the second straight day, making just 35 percent (26-74). Hartnell shot 60 percent.
The Vaqueros will make their home debut on Thursday in the 37th annual SBCC Classic. They open play in the eight-team tournament against Vandenberg AFB at 7 p.m.
