Chargers sluggish at the start, can’t climb back

A slow start was just barely too much to overcome for the Dos Pueblos boys basketball team on Tuesday as the Chargers lost the first half 39-22 and eventually fell 70-56 at Righetti.

The Warrior lead was down to three at one point early in the fourth quarter, but Righetti hit its free throws down the stretch and built the lead back up.

Community West Bank“We had a slow start with seven turnovers in first four minutes, and they hit their shots,” said coach Joe Zamora. “We were just kind of slow out of gates and didn’t have a lot of energy tonight… But in the second half, the light turned on.”

Jay Larinan (17 points) hit a couple of big shots early in the third quarter to cut the deficit down, and Matt McClenathen (10 points, 14 rebounds) pulled down a few key boards but DP “ran out of legs” according to Zamora.

Pablo Miranda had 13 points and dished out eight assists for the Chargers (5-4), who host Lakewood at 7 p.m. Thursday.
