Dos Pueblos took a lead into the fourth quarter on Tuesday, only to have Knight turn the tables in the final eight minutes on its way to a 59-49 decision over the Chargers at the Simi Valley Tournament.
Matt McClenathen led all scorers with 22 while Daniel Pritchard finished with 11 points. DP held a 3-point lead at the end of the third quarter, but gave up 23 points in the fourth to give away the game.
Dos Pueblos head coach Joe Zamora blamed a combination of factors for the collapse, including turnovers, 3-pointers and bad transition defense.
“Had some turnovers that led to easy baskets,” explained Chargers coach Joe Zamora, who thought his team played just fine in its season opener, even without big-man Malik Heptot. “We’ll get through the turnover thing.”
The Chargers play San Fernando on Wednesday.
