Carp pulls through after flurry of late goals

Carpinteria’s boys soccer team was up 1-0 in the 66th minute against host Santa Ynez on Tuesday. Thirteen minutes later, they had won the match 4-3.

“All of their goals came late. I’m not trying to be cocky or anything, but we out-played them throughout the match. The ending was pretty exciting,” said Warriors coach Daniel Torres.

Eduardo Contreras had a hat trick for Carpinteria. He scored the first goal all the way back in the sixth minute, when Hector Delgado sent a ball into the box. Juan Alaniz fed it to Contreras for the score.

The equalizer came 61 minutes later when the Pirates scored on a rebound after a missed penalty kick. Contreras responded on a penalty kick in the 69th minute that made it 2-1, and then scored his third on a long-ball from the midfield that sailed past the goalie. Torres called it one of the ‘funniest’ goals he’s ever seen.

Santa Ynez made it 3-2 with a goal in the 75th, but Carpinteria’s Tony Alvarez fed a long assist to Hector Delgado in the 80th. Santa Ynez sneaked its third score in right before the final whistle.

The Warriors play Dos Pueblos on January 5th.
