Cardinals taken down by the longball

L.A. Baptist won the third quarter and nailed eight 3-pointers on Friday, handing Bishop Diego a 64-51 girls basketball loss at the Fillmore Tournament.

“We got blitzed in the third quarter by those 3-pointers. They made four of them in that quarter even though we were playing man-to-man defense,” said Cardinals coach Jeff Burich.

Janelle Kohler had another double-double, scoring a team-high 17 points and pulling down 13 rebounds while swiping three steals. Courtney Houston had nine points with five assists and three steals.

The 51 points was the most the Cardinals have scored so far in the young season, and Burich said he was pleased with his team’s fast-breaking and transition offense.

Bishop (1-2) plays Thacher early Saturday.
