Dos Pueblos wrestling coach Anthony Califano recently joined the USA Grappling Team in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for the 2009 FILA World Championships, helping the Americans to a variety of individual and team championships as an assistant coach.
Team USA is led by head coach Ricardo Liborio, who is the head instructor at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, FL. His academy has pro fighters like Mike Brown (WEC former champion), Thiago Silva (fighting Rashad Evens soon), Cole Miller (UFC fighter) and Kimbo Slice.
Liborio’s coaching staff included Califano, Shawn Sheldon (2x Olympian), Rhadi Ferguson (2004 Judo Olympian) and Sheldon Marr (head instructor Grappler’s Edge).
“I was in good company (to say the least),” Califano said.
Califano traveled to Lucerne, Switzerland for the 2008 World Championships for grappling, also known as submission wrestling.
