Ema Boateng recorded two-straight highlight-reel type goals for Cate on Wednesday, which also happened to be crucial to the game’s outcome, helping the Rams to a 5-4 season-opening victory over St. Bonaventure.
The game-winner came with the game tied 4-4. Boateng, a freshman, curved a free-kick around a defensive wall and perfectly placed the ball into the upper-right corner of the goal.
Sophomore Avery Schwartz tallied two goals for Cate and senior Kirk Seaman opened up the scoring in the first half. Cate took a 2-0 lead to halftime.
But the Seraphs were able to score four times in the second half, forcing a high-scoring affair. Boateng had a piece of Cate’s third goal as well, feeding Schwartz on his second score.
“While we have some organizational work to do on the defensive side of the ball, it was a solid start with tremendous effort expended at all positions,” said Rams head coach Dave Mochel.
