Bishop’s shooting suffers in fourth quarter

Bishop Diego’s girls basketball team had a five-point lead in the third quarter on Thursday night but let it slip away in a 48-40 loss to La Reina at the Fillmore Tournament.

“We played alright, but we had opportunities in the fourth quarter and the shots just wouldn’t fall,” said coach Jeff Burich. “We missed five free throws in the fourth quarter.”

The game was close all the way through. Janelle Kohler had 10 rebounds and seven points, while Ariel Perez led Bishop’s scoring attack with eight. The Cardinals (2-1) have now had three different leading scorers on the season.

Bishop plays L.A. Baptist at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
