Ivan Matip, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound point guard, dropped 40 points on Friday night as defending CIF champion Besant Hill handed Bishop Diego a 60-46 loss in the Laguna Blanca/Bishop Diego Tournament at the Brickhouse.
The Division I-prospect scored 24 of the Coyotes’ 29 points in the second half, going 9-for-10 from the charity stripe in the game.
“We had a hard time staying in front of him,” said Cardinals head coach Ray Vazquez.
Bishop Diego will play Villanova on the final day of the tournament Saturday at 2 p.m.
