Arsema Berhane recorded career highs with 13 points and 16 rebounds off the bench Wednesday night, leading SBCC to a 66-37 women’s basketball victory at Long Beach City College. Berhane, a 5-7 freshman from Stockholm, Sweden, grabbed 13 of her team’s 37 offensive rebounds.
“We played really well,” said coach Sandrine Krul, after her club improved to 8-9 with its second win over the Vikings this season. “Arsema was an animal on the boards. Everyone we put in was very productive.”
Francesca DeAngelis, the leading scorer in the WSC at 20.4 per game, tallied 13 of her 15 points in the first half when the Vaqueros built a 38-11 lead by holding Long Beach to 12.5 percent shooting (3-24). DeAngelis also had seven rebounds, four steals, four blocks and three assists.
Brittany Stephenson had 12 points, six rebounds and four steals while Jake Kelly contributed nine points, six rebounds, five assists and seven steals.
“I’m really proud of how we played,” added Krul, whose team had a season-best 23 steals. “This gets us ready for conference.”
SBCC will host Moorpark in its WSC North opener on Jan. 6 at 5 p.m.
