Dos Pueblos’ Vanesa Villa shot an 76 and was the lone local golfer to make the cut of 81 out of a very competitive field of 97 girls golfers at Tuesday’s CIF Northern Regional at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai.
“She was very solid today, and avoided anything worse than a double-bogey,” said Chargers coach Rob Schiff. “She’s been working very hard this season and hasn’t always gotten the results she’s wanted, but she just went out with a lot of confidence today.”
Teammates Nicole Bullemer and Emily Fox just missed the cut with rounds of 83 and 85, respectively.
The lowest rounds of the day were a pair of 68s carded by Danielle Kang of Westlake and Emily Tubert of Burroughs High School. Those who made it advance to meet up with the CIF Southern qualifiers next Thursday at Talega Golf Club in San Clemente.
Santa Barbara High’s Olivia Fanaro shot a 91 and teammate Lexi Ortega turned in a 99. San Marcos’ lone representative, Lise Anderson, shot a 95.
“I was just proud of the girls to make it this far and represent Santa Barbara with a respectable round,” said Dons coach Ryan Throop.
“This is the farthest anyone I’ve had as gone, and she worked very hard all season,” said San Marcos coach Shawn Ricci of Anderson.
Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara now await Thursday’s CIF team regionals.
