Turnovers and cold shooting led to a 16-point halftime deficit on Friday and SBCC never recovered in a 102-80 nonconference men’s basketball loss at Southwestern.
David Lane scored 24 points for the Vaqueros (1-2), who fell behind 47-31 at intermission after commiting 17 turnovers and shooting 39.4 percent (13-33) in the first 20 minutes at Chula Vista. Daniel Koches had 14 points, Lucky Teeguarden scored 12 and Willie Reese grabbed six rebounds.
“We dug ourselves a hole by not taking care of the basketball,” said coach Morris Hodges, whose team was playing its first game in 13 days. “We got it down to nine with about eight minutes left but never got any closer.”
The Vaqueros will play at Palomar on Saturday at 3 p.m.
