Frannie DeAngelis scored eight of her game-high 25 points during a 17-0 game-ending run that lifted No. 20 SBCC over Bakersfield 70-64 on Wednesday night. Jake Kelly had 13 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in the nonconference women’s basketball game at Bakersfield, one night after helping the Vaquero women’s volleyball squad clinch the WSC title.
The Vaqueros (3-1) trailed by 11 (64-53) with 2:25 to play before Kelly hit a 3-pointer to ignite the 17-0 outburst. DeAngelis scored eight straight points to tie it at 64. SBCC was 6-6 from the free-throw line in the final 42 seconds with Bridget Conlan and Lyndsay Bergus hitting the final four.
Mara Lux had her third straight double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
“Free throws won the game for us (SBCC was 19 of 27),” said coach Sandrine Krul. “The thing that’s different from last year is this team knows how to close out games. We don’t get rattled when we get behind.”
The Vaqueros will take on No. 1 Mt. San Antonio (3-0) on Saturday in a 5 p.m. home game.
