Tip-a-Cop event to benefit Special Olympics

Join officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department , Santa Barbara County Probation Department and the County Sheriff’s Department as they serve you a great meal at Chili’s Bar and Grill  on Monday, November 16th from 5pm to 10pm. All tips benefit Special Olympics. The public is invited to Chili’s, a Tip-A-Cop participating restaurant for nine years.

The evening fundraiser provides the opportunity for the public to talk with and have fun with local officers and support a good cause. The event supports local Special Olympics programs that provide opportunities for 300 children, teens, and adults with intellectual disabilities to participate in year-round sports training and competition.

Law Enforcement world-wide supports Special Olympics. For 22 years South County Law Enforcement has conducted Tip-A-Cops at area restaurants to support the mission of Special Olympics. Under the direction of Lt. Butch Arnoldi, South County Torch Run Director, Law Enforcement from seven agencies raised $13,000 for Special Olympics through Tip-A-Cop activities this year. The November 16th Tip-A-Cop is the last event for 2009.

Throughout the year Law Enforcement Officers participate in awards ceremonies at local tournaments, presenting medals to Special Olympics athletes. They also volunteer to assist at events, and are friends to local athletes. Lt. “Butch”Arnoldi, Sheriff’s Department, recently participated in the medal ceremonies at the Fall Regional Games in Santa Maria and the Sheriff’s Department showed their old Sheriff’s Wagon and new DARE car at the recent Special Olympics Classic Car and Motorcycle show.

Thanks to the generosity of the community and active Law Enforcement volunteers, there is no cost for children, teens or adults to participate in Special Olympics.
