Santa Barbara City College hosted its third annual Holiday Tennis Classic on Nov. 21-22, attracting a wealth of players to help raise money for its tennis programs.
Several champions were crowned, with UCSB’s Ben Recknagel defeating teammate Mathieu Forget 6-1, 6-3 for the Open Men’s title and Rachel Decker-Sadowski claiming the Open Women’s title from her older sister Katja Decker-Sadowski 6-3, 6-2.
Rachel and Katja combined forces to win the Open Women’s Doubles while UCSB’s Taylor Goggin and Evan Jurgenson handled the Vaqueros’ Elliot Markowitz and Kyle Lewis in the Open Men’s Doubles final.

The Men’s Open draw was by far the most popular, filling out a complete 32-player bracket. Recknagel defeated another UCSB teammate in the open semifinals, Scott Hohenstein. Forget broke through an all-UCSB semifinal by defeating Jurgenson 6-3, 6-4.
Phil Hill beat out 15 others in Men’s A Singles, winning four matches without dropping a set. Hill met Jared Ekola in the final.
Sheri Albers was champion of Women’s B Singles, coming from behind to topple Gabriella McDaniel 2-6, 6-3 (8). Spencer Ekola was runner-up to Matt Good in the Men’s B Singles.
