Kelly Deckers broke free for the final kick of the game Tuesday but her shot went wide left, leaving SBCC with a 0-0 nonconference women’s soccer tie at Taft. It was the sixth tie of the year for the 21st-ranked Vaqueros (8-3-6) and the third scoreless tie.
“We could have played better,” said coach John Sisterson. “We were missing (defender) Lindsey Snow with an injury. It was a pretty even match.”
Courtney Belsheim beat two players and got off a 25-yard blast in the first half but it was also wide of the goal. Sisterson said Taft (7-7-3) didn’t have many scoring chances.
Goalie Meghan Maiwald posted her ninth shutout of the season and boosted her school-record career total to 22.
SBCC returns home to host Oxnard on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
