San Marcos’ boys soccer season got off to a slow start on Monday as the Royals fell to visiting Channel Islands 3-0 at Valley Stadium.
“Right off the bat you know Channel Islands is going to be a tough team, and we hadn’t scrimmaged yet so it was a first run-through,” said coach Brian Eisen.
Channel Islands scored twice near the end of the first half and added the third shortly before the final whistle. Eisen said that senior twins Efren (goalie) and Erik (midfield) Gutierrez played outstanding matches.
“Thet played phenomenal games today. I just wish their drive was contagious,” said Eisen. “After a long Thanksgiving break it’s hard to ask for a whole lot.”
The Royals (0-1) have plenty of time to prepare for their next match against Rio Mesa a week from Thursday.
