Moorpark scored a goal in the 65th minute and held on to upset visiting SBCC 1-0 in a men’s soccer match on Friday afternoon.
It was the first WSC loss for the 20th-ranked Vaqueros (8-6-4, 8-1-3), who saw their first-place lead over No. 19 Canyons reduced to two points. SBCC travels to Canyons on Tuesday for a first-place battle at 1 p.m.
The Vaqueros are 21-2-3 in their last 26 conference games.
“We started out well but gradually, Moorpark got on top,” said coach John Sisterson. “They were up for the physical battle. We were lacking an edge today. We didn’t pass the ball well and didn’t really test their keeper.”
Sisterson praised the defensive efforts of Sam Nicholson.
