Owls erase Lancaster from the picture

The Laguna Blanca girls tennis team made sure it reached the next round on Tuesday, eliminating visiting Lancaster 16-2 in a CIF wild-card match at the Municipal Courts.

“The girls definitely performed like it was going to be a close match,” said Owls head coach Brian Antecki, whose team earned a playoff berth by finishing second in the Condor League.

Laguna Blanca swept in doubles and its starting singles players breezed to six wins before giving way to Kayla Schwartz, Morgan Raith and Allie Lafitte.

The doubles teams of Lauren Conk/Julia Grienitz and Helena Davila/Elise Scheuermann took three sets each as the only players to have full days  work.  Monica Watson and Daria Etezadi took over for No. 1 doubles Caitlin Connor and Olivia Liebman to complete the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win.

Liza Fletcher, Arabella Watters and Kelsey Chesterfield gave the Owls a nice start with two wins each in singles.

The Owls (8-4) advance to play Rio Mesa on Thursday. The Spartans enter the postseason as the No. 1 team from the Pacific View League.
