Ventura College scored in the 83rd minute Friday night and went on to hand visiting SBCC a 1-0 women’s soccer defeat in the regular-season finale.
The Pirates (16-3-1, 8-1-1) finished second in the WSC behind Moorpark while the Vaqueros (10-4-6, 5-3-2) were third. Kelly Deckers, SBCC’s top scorer, was sent off near the end of the game.
“The girls battled and I was proud of them,” said coach John Sisterston. “Kelly was tremendous. She hadn’t trained for three days with 103-degree temperature. She came back and wanted to play tonight.”
After starting the day ranked No. 14 in Southern California, the Vaqueros dropped to 18th. The top 16 qualify for the So Cal Regional, which starts on Nov. 21.
The pairings will be announced on Monday.
