Willie Reese scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds on Saturday, leading the SBCC men’s basketball team to a 75-70 triumph over Victor Valley in the third-place game of the Glendale Tournament.
Lucky Teeguarden added 14 points and David Lane had 13 for the Vaqueros (1-1), who opened with a 21-11 run and led 47-34 at halftime.
SBCC led 70-61 with 3:55 to play but the Rams pulled within two, 72-70, with 42 seconds left. Reese, a freshman from Santa Barbara High, had two key defensive rebounds and hit 3-4 free throws in the final 25 seconds.
Reese canned 10 of 11 free throws in the game.
“We played better than we did on Friday,” said coach Morris Hodges. “We rebounded better and our offense was much better in the first half. We had another lull in the second half where they came back. We need to work on that.”
SBCC returns to action on Nov. 20 at Southwestern.
