A good start from the Santa Barbara boys water polo team was quickly shut down by Harvard-Westlake on Wednesday, leading to an 11-4 defeat in the opening round of the CIF Division I playoffs.
The Dons sprung a 2-1 lead in the first quarter but the Wolverines responded by keeping the Dons scoreless for the next two-quarters plus. By the start of the fourth period, No. 7 Harvard-Westlake held a comfortable 9-2 lead.
Seniors Ken Myers and Brendan Kerwin-McElroy scored goals in their final high school games. Andrew Adams and Evan Schu added goals. Mark Davis collected four steals and Evan Robertson drew three ejections with an assist.
James Stilwell recorded six saves in the cage.
“I’m proud of the season they had,” said Dons head coach Mark Walsh, whose team finishes with a 15-13 overall record.
